We believe the world’s focus on climate change has reached an inflection point with the realization that we must act now to avert the potentially catastrophic impacts of global warming. In the past year, governments have increased their commitments under the Paris Agreement. Corporations are also acknowledging their role and announcing plans to be “net-zero” or “carbon neutral” by 2050 to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement, with some having aggressive plans to achieve this goal by 2030. Shareholders and regulators are asking companies to disclose and address climate risk in their operations. Consumers are seeking goods and services with minimal or no carbon footprint, and are willing to pay a premium for it.

At Standard Carbon we want to harness the power of the capital markets to fight climate change.  We are at the forefront of bringing stream financing, a flexible and partnership-focused funding model, to climate finance. Our goal is to stimulate the creation and expansion of high-integrity carbon offset projects that reduce or remove emissions in a manner that is equitable, just and protects livelihoods. Our financing structure aligns our strategic interests with those of project developers to create long-term relationships built on shared principles of transparency and accountability. We believe this approach also makes us a trusted source for buyers seeking high-quality carbon credits.

While every carbon credit represents one less tonne of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, not every carbon credit is equal in its broader contribution to a sustainable future. Part of the investment strategy at Standard Carbon is to direct capital to projects with co-benefits that advance one or more United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We aim to maximize the impact of our capital to not only reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere but also make a difference on the ground to help communities to thrive and increase their resilience to climate change. We intend to pursue enduring, sustainable value for all stakeholders, including shareholders, employees, customers and the local communities in which we invest.
