We at Standard Offset have now launched our NFT marketplace allowing our clients to obtain their offsets in the form of a NFT token which clients can then trade amongst themselves if they so choose all from the comfort of our platform.
What are NFTs?
To understand what are NFTs and how they work, you need to also understand cryptocurrency. Both are digital assets, but they aren’t the same thing.
NFTs are akin to digital proofs of ownership. Cryptocurrency is a type of money that is only in digital form (like Bitcoin or Ethereum). Cryptocurrency is the thing you use to make a purchase, while NFTs are the thing you purchase. You use cryptocurrency to buy NFTs.
Also, remember how we said that NFTs are non-fungible and can’t be traded at the same value as another NFT? Crypto is fungible. One Bitcoin, for example, is worth the same amount as another Bitcoin. NFT stands for non-fungible token. “Non-fungible” means something is one-of-a-kind and can’t be replaced. Think of the Mona Lisa painting — there’s only one in the world. NFTs are digital assets that represent things like art, virtual avatars, GIFs, videos, trading cards and even memes.
How to buy NFTs
Most commonly, NFT transactions are made using cryptocurrency, but some sites allow you to use credit or debit cards. To buy NFTs with cryptocurrency, you need to set up a digital wallet. There are a range of digital wallets available depending on where you live and what blockchain(s) you want to use. For example, we’re testing the ability for select creators and collectors on Instagram to showcase NFTs from compatible third-party wallets such as Rainbow, MetaMask and Trust Wallet, with Coinbase Wallet, Dapper and Phantom coming soon. Then, you need to connect your digital wallet to a third-party NFT marketplace, where you can browse and shop for NFTs.
Just like pieces of art in the physical world, NFTs can be rare and valuable. Generally, when an NFT is sold on a marketplace, there’s a bidding process where the price of the NFT is determined by how much demand there is for it.
